Catholic churches in Cancun for weddings
For a sacramental Catholic wedding in the Cancun area, you have two kinds of setting: a parish church in town, or a consecrated chapel inside a resort. Not every resort "chapel" qualifies — many are built for symbolic ceremonies only — and a Catholic rite can't be moved onto the sand. These are the options couples most often consider.
Parroquia Cristo Resucitado — Hotel Zone
The parish church on Boulevard Kukulcán, in the heart of the Hotel Zone, is the natural choice when your guests are staying at a beachfront resort: the ride from hotel to church is short and easy to plan for a group. Cathedral of the Holy Cross and the Most Holy Trinity — downtown Cancun
The cathedral of the Diocese of Cancún–Chetumal, on Avenida Puertos in downtown Cancun, was completed in 2025 after more than two decades of construction. It's the setting for couples who picture a grand, traditional church wedding — with the reception back on the coast afterwards.
Resort chapels
A few resorts have their own consecrated Catholic chapel, so the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception can all happen on one property:
- Moon Palace Cancun — the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, a round, air-conditioned pavilion with glass on every side.
- Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres & TRS Coral — the glass-fronted chapel of Nuestra Señora del Rocío, north of the city in Costa Mujeres.
- Hard Rock Riviera Maya — the ocean-view San Charbel Chapel, if you'd rather marry further down the coast.

The Diocese of Cancún–Chetumal asks couples to open their marriage file at least four months before the wedding, and a baptism certificate issued for marriage is valid for six months. If you're coming from a parish abroad, as most destination couples are, your home parish prepares the file and your diocese issues a transfer letter. At Parroquia Cristo Resucitado, for example, that letter — together with updated baptism certificates, IDs, birth certificates and proof of your pre-marriage course — is due around two months before the date. On the day: church etiquette
Parish churches stay open to their community during ceremonies and start on schedule, and petals, rice or bubbles can't be thrown inside or outside the building. Some parishes also don't allow recorded music and keep photographers off the altar area — details we brief your musicians and photographers on well in advance.
